Design-Build & General Construction

Design-build means the design and the construction are not two separate contracts handed between strangers — they are one process, with one team accountable from the first drawing to the last inspection. Kevin Cohen Design offers architecture, design, and general construction services together across Los Angeles.

The traditional split — design on one side, construction on the other — puts the homeowner in the middle, translating between parties who can each blame the other when something goes wrong. Design-build closes that gap. When the people who drew it are accountable for building it, decisions made on paper are made with construction in mind, and the person responsible does not change halfway through.

What design-build covers

Why it tends to work better

Fewer handoffs mean fewer things fall through the cracks. Budget and buildability are considered while the design is still flexible, not discovered after it is locked. And when a question comes up mid-build — and one always does — there is no argument about whose problem it is.

A note on scope

These are design-build and general construction services. Construction in California is regulated, and the specific licensing details for a given project are confirmed directly with Kevin before work begins.
